First and last...

On Monday, I went to my last Cubs game for the season. It's always a little sad, especially when there's no hope of breaking the 98 year no world series streak, but that's what being a loyal Cubs fan is really about...the beer! Here's a shot of beautiful Wrigley at night...

The game wasn't very crowded, but leave it to fate to put me right next to a die hard Brewers fan. We had some good natured ribbing.

You can see that the game is going well, because Ben is smiling quite brightly (I love you, Ben!).

Donyielle even had a good time...this was her very first Cubs game--EVER! Even though she didn't have the Old Style (I swear Wrigley Field is the ONLY place in the world where it tastes good) she still had a great time. She did stand with Jim McMahon for the 7th inning streach, but refused to sing because she'd "loose, like, a thousand 'cool points'". She made it up by letting me ride with Isis after the game! :)

Run up the white W flag...Cubs creamed the Brewers 14 to 6--Go Cubs, GO!

Time to move on to more important things, like football...Chicago Bears, BEAR DOWN!

Trim=Long Layers?

I was in desprate need of a trim, my last hair cut was in July. I finally made it in to night. I told the girl I wanted a trim. I explained I had long layers and I was trying to grow my hair long. I just need a trim to get rid of the ickies and so my hair would lay nice.

What part of "TRIM" means re-cut long layers?

UGH!! I have been trying to get my hair healthy and one length forever. Now, I'm back to square one. After she took a chunk and cut off three inches I had to let her finish because I was afraid it would look even more stupid.

What was I supposed to do after the damage is done? I told her she was cutting off too much. And to top it off, my bangs are too short. ABOVE my eyebrows.

I've been telling myself all night--it's only hair. It will grow back.

How long will it take to grow this thing out? (Assuiming someone else doesn't screw it up again?)

Here's the horribleness. (And the pictures were taken in my horrible peach bathroom--don't get me started on that one) Please tell me it's not as bad as I think. (Dave and Barb, I need some more positive messages!!)

Thanks for the Affirmations!

So, I had a message from Barb on my answering machine:

"Hello, Beth, it's Barb. I was just calling to tell you why you're one of my best friends. Because you're good enough, you're smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like you! Bye!"

That totally cracked me up!! Thanks for the uplift, Barb (and Stewart Smalley!).

I also got an e-mail from Dave. Check out this site, and see how "mighty" I really am!

Dave, how do you find this stuff?!?! (and have the time too...I mean, you never blog...:))

Thanks, guys, for your support. You're the best!!

More things that bug me

We all know that blatant obnoxiousness with a cell phone irritates me (see a previous post), but this one takes the cake!

I was at the gym and I needed to use the bathroom. I headed over to the stalls and I could hear this woman in one of the stalls talking on her cell phone. Ok, well some people have relationships like that, whatever. Not something, I'd do, but maybe it works for some.

There was another woman using the facilities, and just as I was getting to the stalls I heard the woman on the cell phone ask the person she was speaking with to hold a minute while she shushed the other woman for pee-ing too loudly!

Are you kidding me?!?!

How can you be in a public restroom, on a cell phone and shush someone for doing their business!? I really think that phone booths need to make a come back. Even if there aren't phones in them. Just so loud cell phone talkers can shut themselves inside and not bother the rest of us!

Some people just need to be beaten with their own cell phones.

Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a pirate's life for me!

Sure it's random, but it's fun!

Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Aarrrgh! Mateys!

And to quote my favorite pirate of all time--

"But WHY is the rum gone?"

Check out Capt. Jack, his page rocks!

Christmas in September?

Attention! Attention!

If you were planning to be the first to put up your Christmas lights for the 2006 holiday season, you have just lost that title.

Driving to the store today, I saw people putting UP their Christmas lights!!

What day is it? Oh that's right, SEPTEMBER 17th. WTF!?!?!

That's right, a house in the Jefferson Park area of Chicago, all decked out. I'll admit, I've put them up early...like mid-November, if there was an abnormally warm day. But in my defense, I never turned them on until after Thanksgiving. It was even raining, here in the Windy City.

What are these people thinking!?!?

I'm quite curious what Ongina's verdict on the actual decor would be...

Hooray for Football Season!!

The best time of year...Football Season!!

And what a great start!! The Chicago Bears defeated the Green Bay Packers 26 to nothing!!! It's always a wonderful Sunday when the Pack get's shut out, and it's even better when the Bears are the ones to do it!!

I know that the NFC North is not the "Black and Blue Division" any more, but at least we're certain to win the division! And with the depth at the quarterback position, even if (God forbid) Sexy-Rexy get's broken, Greise is a proven guy who can step up. I am worried about the red zone conversions. It today's game, I didn't see to much promise. Lovie needs to ensure that the guys can get the ball in there when it counts. It really drives me nuts to see the ball that close, and players can't deliver.

Besides that, so far I'm happy! Next week is Detroit. The Lion's did surprise me in their game against Seattle, but the fact is that they still lost, and I think their uniforms are ugly. So get ready for another ass kickin'!

GO BEARS!!

****Side note: If anyone has an extra-ticket to any home game, be sure to give this girl a call!!*****

Fun Friday!

On Friday, Meg and Ben and I headed downtown for the Windy City Wine festival!! Good times!!

Meg and I definately got our tastings worth. We even discovered Bokbunja, this excellent black raspbery Korean wine. It's a type of desert wine that's practially a port, and it's AMAZING! We made several stops at that booth. We also tried a few old favorites as well as "Frappe Vino" by d'marie inc. It's actually a wine slushie!! Oh heaven!!

After the we had enough wine, we went and had some dinner...(I can't remember where, but it was good!) Then we headed to Union Station to get out to Meg and Ben's.

I felt the need to say good bye to Marshall Fields...

For those of you who don't know, the evil Macy's has bought out Marshall Fields and has changed them all to Macy's. I hate Macy's. So much that here's me flipping the Macy's sign off...

We got to Union Station, and I we got on our train. It was acutally my first trip on the Metra. I'm a city girl, I've never needed to get out to the suburbs by train!!
Here's my ticket.

We made it back to A-town safe and sound. The conductor was quite entertaining!

Yeah Wine!! Yeah Metra! (I still hate Macy's)

Resourcefulness

I'd like to call this one resourcefulness.

School has started, and so far, there is one class that is totally out of control. It was a very LONG hour with them So, I decided that since I survived, I wanted to have a glass of wine with dinner. I pulled the bottle out of the fridge, and went to the drawer where I keep the cork screw...

and I dig...

and I dig...

No cork screw.

I realize, that my ONLY cork screw (I have at least 10 bottle openers that I came across) was taken to Ravinia earlier in the summer, and I can only assume that it is at Chris's. Most of you realize what a HUGE problem that actually is. Well, what's a girl gonna do? I refuse to let a little thing like that stop me. (Does that make me an alcoholic?)

Anywho, I did what every red blooded American girl would do... I got my drill.

For those of you who know me, no worries. I did not cause any damage to myself or property. For the record I only spilled a few drops of wine.

What I did was I took a long screw and drilled it down into the cork. I then used pliers to slide the cork out about an inch.

When I realized that I couldn't get any more leverage or the strength to pull the cork out with my hands, I used the vice in my basement to hold the screw while I pulled on the bottle to get it open (hence the spilling of few drops).

It takes a lot more than loosing a cork screw to stop me!! And for the record, the wine was delicious with my dinner.

I bet Jack feeling strangely proud right now.

Chillin' with the Turtles

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day...

As you can see...Seamus spent his sleeping on the back porch in a wicker turtle.

Nick and Nick (yeah two of them) were working on the car on Saturday, and decided that I needed to start drinking...well fortunately for Target runs, we were doin' alright. I discovered that Target has wine in juice boxes!! Four different types of wine. I had to get a pack, just to make me feel better!

Nick was the brat master...

Yummy!! Good call Kristi on the turkey brats!

Mmmm...Brats....

Becca on the computer.

My buzz was definitely accelerated by my Malibu and Diet Coke...

The night ended with Carlos Mencia...Good times!
